The New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Newly Translated out of the Original Greek, etc. London. Thomas Baskett. 1755.
An absolutely fascinating 5 x 7.5 inch preaching New Testament with just under 200 leaves interleaved throughout with extensive handwritten notes in the hand of Rev. Henry Procter [1733-1808].
Procter was trained for the Presbyterian ministry under Caleb Ashworth / Philip Doddridge at Daventry Academy and Northamptonshire and served until his death in 1808 at Stafford. Philip Doddridge improved Jeremiah Rich's original version of shorthand, and many of the notes reflect Doddridge's usage. Though there are sections in English, Latin, Greek, etc. . .
Original notes, plus references to Edwards, Benson, Geography, Popish Garments, Philip Doddridge [perhaps from original lectures], Macknight, extensive notes in Romans and Revelation filling nearly all the blanks plus margins, etc., Isaac Watts, the foolishness of preaching,
Original rubbed calf with spine overbound in vellum. Very rubbed, but solid.
