Nice little historical artifact with first-hand account of the beginnings of the 1841 revival in Boston, which included the Methodists, the Baptists, Presbyterians, and other Evangelicals.

Notably, this letter takes place during the first few weeks of 1842, just after it began. When it was evident that something of a revival was taking place, Elder Knapp [of the Baptists], J. W. Kirk [protege of Charles G. Finney; Presbyterian] etc., were called in to carry on the work.

"Dear Cousin,

Feeling that you take great interest in hearing of the advancement of Christ's Kingdom . . . you would be pleased to hear of the Great Awakening . . . we have holden meetings in Bowdoin St. Vestry every evening in the week for six weeks. Your dear brother attended . . . and seemed to be very much affected and was induced to attend our church last Sabbath morning. . . . Rev. Mr. Knapp is preaching with great effect in the Baptist Chch. Mr. Kirk will be here next week."  etc.
