Rare Puritan / Presbyterian work by William Bagshaw[e] [1628-1702]. Known as the "Apostle of the Peak," he was ejected from Sheffield with the godly band of nearly 2,000 other Puritans in 1662 for his unwillingness to conform. At the Restoration he was made minister in the Peak region of Derbyshire and became one of the most influential pastors among the puritans.

His works are very rare and for his influence he has been the study of comparatively little historical research. His works were published by Parkhurst, the publisher of choice for the puritans of the experimental mind, i.e. Thomas Brooks, Thomas Watson, William Bridge, etc. His preaching and writing are marked by a sort of pith similar to Watson, though perhaps more colloquial.

Leather binding split to hinge on upper board but holding firmly. First few pages and last page handled. Other pages age-toned, with some finger-marking and minor worm traces to the bottom margin of several pages. Weak between one pair of signatures at rear. Title and adverts lacking, but textually complete.
