The ensō means any of a number of concepts, nicely illustrated in the chart below, 

We intentionally chose to illustrate in what I term "American" style calligraphy rather than traditional Japanese, Chinese, or even Old English lettering.

These two items are individually painted on watercolor paper, mounted on a wood fiber veneer board. The black is very intense.

Each is 18" x 24" on 140 lb cold pressed watercolor paper.
