For sale here is a scarce JW Young - made for Preedy 4 1/4" alloy salmon fly reel. 1 3/16 spool width. The "Patent Applied For" stamp refers to the ivorine brake button to the frame that applies pressure to the spool. Smooth unmolested brass foot measures 3 1/8", ebonite handle spins freely, bright finish spool, triple pillar frame, retaining most original dark lead finish/lacquer. The click check works great and the reel's mechanical operation is very smooth. Some end play exists but no wobble. No cracks, chips, line burns, or corrosion. Weighs 13 1/4 oz. Nice reel for the price!

Improvements in and relating to Fishing Reels.

I, THOMAS RANDALL PREEDY, of the Firm of Bernard and Son, 45, Jermyn Street, St. James's Street, London, S.W. Fishing Tackle Manufacturers, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows: This invention relates to improvements in and relating to fishing reels, the object being to provide a simple and efficient brake thereon. In carrying my invention into effect, I attach to the inner face of the fixed plate one end of a spring having on one side 'of its' free end a finger piece which projects through a hole, provided for it in the said plate.

On the other side of the said free end of the spring is a piece of rubber or other suitable material, which can, as and when required, be brought into contact with the opposing face of the adjacent cheek of the drum by pressing on the finger piece and thus provide a brake which can be immediately put in or out of action.

This invention relates, to improvements in and relating to fishing reels, the object being to provide a simple and efficient brake thereon.

In carrying my invention into effect I proceed in or in about the following manner making reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:

To the inner face of the fixed plate, I attach one end of a flat spring, having on one side of its free end a finger piece (c) which projects through a hole provided for it in the side plate (a)

On the other side of the said free end of the spring (b) is a piece of rubber or other suitable material (e) which as and when required can be brought into contact with the opposing face of the adjacent check of of the drum by pressing on the finger piece and thus provide a brake which can be immediately put in or out of action.
