Explore the fascinating world of cicadas in this immersive workshop with Dr Anna Voytsekhovich. Learn about their anatomy, ecology and morphology, observe cicadas in nature, and develop your skills in drawing and painting these remarkable insects.

• Days/Times: Saturday and Sunday, 9.30am – 4.00pm 
• Locations: NatureArt Lab Studio, M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith

Learn about the anatomy, ecology and morphology of cicadas. Explore different colour patterns and textures of Australian native cicadas and learn how to paint them in watercolour. Produce an initial drawing of an object, learn how to scale it, what to include in composition, and then how to transfer to paper and produce a beautiful scientifically accurate illustration in watercolour. After the tutorial all students will be able to produce a finished painting of the cicada of their choice using the techniques they learned during the lesson. They will have two weeks to finish their painting and send to the tutor for feedback.

Prerequisites: We recommend that students have some drawing and watercolour experience.  

About your Tutor:
Dr Anna Voytsekhovich holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Ecology, and a PhD in Botany. She is a professional scientist, scientific illustrator, botanical artist and wildlife illustrator. A member of the Botanical Art Society of Australia and Florilegium Society of Australasia. She exhibits and taking part in organisation of Australian and international botanical exhibitions. Her artworks and scientific illustrations are well known and very often Highly Commended during various events end exhibitions (for example, Margaret Flockton Awards 2021, Flora: The Art and Science of the Plant 2019). Anna currently resides in Sydney and works on restoration of critically endangered plant communities as a professional Botanist and Bush Regenerator.
