For sale here is a stunning limited edition rod made by Thomas & Thomas in 1985 -- “The Amabilis”. 8’, 3/2, 5 wt., 4.9 oz. Less than 20 of these rods were made. T&T developed this commemorative rod to pay tribute to Arundinaria Amabilis, meaning literally "lovely bamboo", and referred to in the trade as "Tonkin". The reel seat has a burled pidgeon walnut insert with hand engraved nickel silver cap and ring hardware. The ferrules are also hand engraved. The engraving was done for T&T by an Italian gunsmith. The entire rod is exquisitely finished. Scripted in white ink on the distinctive T&T swelled butt section is “#5”, “The Amabilis – 1985 – Ltd. Edition”. Each section also has “#5” inked on it. Cigar grip. High gloss varnish over highly seasoned pre-embargo cane. Fawn silk wraps edged with dusty plum. Progressive dry fly action. Comes with its original stitched leather tube embossed with the T&T logo and its original protective rod bag. The tube has hand-engraved brass caps on both ends. This rod remains in mint condition.
