Fruit trees are not drought-tolerant. But it will become less thirsty as the shade canopy and understory of grasses and flowering herbs fills in.

Why Ornamental Grasses in an Orchard?

Ornamental grasses serve an important habitat function in regenerative agriculture. Their blades shelter valuable predatory insect populations which keeps the garden's food chain in check. Plus in the winter they become a valuable source of mulch and straw when they're trimmed.
