For sale here is an early HL Leonard marked raised pillar salmon reel. Stamped "H.L. Leonard Patent No. 191813" on the headplate. This reel was most likely made by Philbrook & Paine before Julius vom Hofe began making similar Leonard-marked reels in the early 1900s. German silver construction, including the spool, the unmarked and unmolested reel foot, and the unmistakable P&P designed handle arm and counterbalance. The german silver sliding drag adjustment bar on the back plate is stamped with the drag patent date of Jul 22, 1890. Mechanically the reel remains in very good condition with a constant and smooth winding operation. The screw heads are in fine condition as well. The reel has not been cleaned and there is a fair amount of verdigris on the inner spool. This will easily come off should the new buyer desire. The reel measures 3 3/4" in diameter (4 1/2" pillar to pillar) with a 1 3/4" wide spool. The reel weighs 20.4 oz.

It's extremely hard to find this model in such amazing condition. Don't let it get away!
