California estates do not come more classical that this one, founded in 1945 south of San Francisco, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. There's lovely savouriness and grip to these wines, and this is rounded and aromatic with fresh, juicy plum on nose and palate. The firm structure crunches pleasantly, while a vein of freshness backs up the fruit. Gentle smoke and dried tobacco play on the finish.
