A very smartly preserved copy of a classic and more rigorous work by C. S. Lewis using his rubric of Platonism [rescued by Aristotelianism] and metaphors of love, as a transcendent, in Medieval literature. The connection between the transcendent of God and allegory or "shadow" is evident throughout.
Engages the idea of allegory, which again has theological implications for Lewis, and then The Romance of the Rose, Chaucer, Gower, the Faerie Queene, etc.
Lewis, C. S. The Allegory of Love. A Study in Medieval Tradition. Oxford at the Clarendon Press. 1936. First Edition. 378pp.
Good + to very good with only the slightest wear, bit bumped at lower right front board. A very nice, crisp copy. Very neat previous ownership label of important collector Clyde P. Craine.
