The Faraday Rotator Mirror (FM) is a passive device that provides 90-degree rotation regarding the input light's polarization state. It is an alternative to polarization-maintaining fiber to minimize the SOP drifting effects. This greatly enables better control over the design of systems such as fiber sensors, amplifiers, and lasers. The FM offers excellent performance including the lowest possible insertion loss and environmental stability. It is used in EDFAs, fiber lasers, and fiber instruments to minimize the polarization effect.
