The designation Type 20 originated from a directive from the Ministry of War, which mandated that all its units be equipped with chronographs featuring the flyback function.
This function allows sailors and pilots to rely on quick and reliable equipment, especially for accurately determining course changes. Additionally, it was necessary to accurately calculate longitudes to avoid any errors in course or objective.
